Takeshi Kumira
- Born in 1980, Tokyo
Working with the anthropological concept of “external organs,” the artist explores the idea that one’s surrounding environment is “the body turned inside out.” Through this perspective, their practice seeks to connect regional food cultures, local natural environments, and viewers. Using a wide range of materials, the artist creates works that examine the materiality and temporality of sculpture, considering its points of intersection with contemporary society.
Major solo exhibitions include “Deaf Voice: I Do Not Want to Endure Time” (TEZUKAYAMA GALLERY, 2024), “In Concrete” (FEI ART MUSEUM YOKOHAMA, 2017), and “N E blood 21 vol 60” (Rias Ark Museum of Art, 2017). Selected group exhibitions include “Emerging Artists Exhibition Rough True Stories” (Kawaguchi Municipal Art Gallery Atria, 2020), “Rokko Meets Art” (Mount Rokko, 2020), “Art Miyagi 2019” (Miyagi Museum of Art, 2019), “Art of Akita 2016” (Akita Museum of Art, 2016), and Echigo Tsumari Art Triennale Kamikoani Project Akita 2015 (Kamikoani Village, Akita, 2015).
